Frequently Asked Questions
What are essential oils?
Forest Remedies™ essential oils are liquids isolated from plants and named after their botanical source. The term “essential” refers to the “quintessence” or total flavor or odor of the parent plant. Essential oils may contain hundreds of different constituents that contribute to the flavor and smell of the plant. When these plant constituents are extracted and packaged as Forest Remedies™ essential oils, they are 50 to 100 times more concentrated than they were in the plant. Essential oils have distinctive smells, may be clear or slightly colored, and can be biologically active. Essential oil use has been documented since the 10th century, but the use of plant-based infusions dates back thousands of years prior.
What makes Forest Remedies Essential Oils different from other brands?
Our range of essential oils feature sustainably-sourced premium plant extracts to offer an incredible aromatherapeutic experience. These captivating aromatics can be added to diffusers and, when diluted with a carrier oil, applied topically to enhance massages, baths and grooming treatments.
Because of their high purity, our essential oils can be mixed and worn to create a signature scent with the depth and staying power of a luxury perfume. Explore the full range of Forest Remedies essential oils and discover how these potent scents can enhance your feelings and environment.
How are essential oils made?
Historically, essential oils were prepared by boiling plant material in water. Most Forest Remedies™ essential oils are extracted from plant material by hydro or steam distillation, by being partitioned into another liquid or by pressing. Depending on the essential oil and parent plant species, different parts of the plant may be used – for example, the peel, petals, leaves, stems or balsam.
